By giving to UAFS baseball, you’ll help upgrade the facilities our student-athletes use every day, allowing players to spend more time practicing and coaches to spend more time developing their team.
Your gift will help replace the batting cages’ aging suspension and pulley system, parts of which have been in place since 1996. Although the nets have been replaced over the years, the equipment supporting them limits how the space can be used. Baseballs regularly escape beneath the netting, interrupting hitting sessions while players retrieve them. An updated system would better contain balls and allow the nets to be raised, opening the space for throwing and other drills.
“It’s all about making the most out of these students’ time,” said Todd Holland, head baseball coach. “It will be so much easier for them to just come in and start hitting baseballs, getting that practice in.”
Holland says the MIAA is the SEC of the Division II world, meaning the team needs more efficient practice time and upgraded space to stay competitive.
Funding will also help the program work toward installing a turf pitching mound, a roughly $15,000 improvement that would reduce the need to repair and reshape the dirt surface after games and practices.
“Our field looks really good, but I don’t think people realize how much work we have to do or put into it,” Holland said. “We probably spend 20 to 25 hours a week just trying to get the field maintained and ready for our team.”
The turf mound would reduce some of that maintenance workload and make practice more effective.
